‘Absinthe’ Marks 15 Years Of Beautiful Chaos On The Las Vegas Strip

It was a celebration like no other – one that brought circus vibes, a Las Vegas feel, and lots of oohs and ahs in a unique and intimate space.

Spiegelworld’s “Absinthe” marked 15 years earlier this week as one of the Las Vegas Strip’s most daring and distinctive shows, evolving from a scrappy tent production into a full-fledged entertainment phenomenon outside of Caesars Palace. Known for its risqué humor, jaw-dropping acrobatics, and ever-changing lineup of world-class talent, the show continues to push boundaries while staying true to its irreverent roots. To celebrate the big milestone, Spiegelworld hosted an over-the-top anniversary event in the Green Fairy Garden to honor the legacy of a production that helped redefine modern circus entertainment on the world-famous Las Vegas Strip.

The Blast was in attendance for the exciting anniversary celebration on Wednesday night. From pre-gaming in the Green Fairy Garden to showtime under the big top to the anniversary after-party, a time was had by all who attended.

On Wednesday, April 8, a party like no other took over the Green Fairy Garden at Caesars Palace. “Absinthe,” a show filled with amazing talent, risqué humor, and many moments that had the audience collectively saying “wow,” celebrated a big milestone.

Spiegelworld, founded by Ross Mollison, who was in attendance for the fabulous celebration, has multiple shows, restaurants, and bars in Sin City. “Absinthe” began on a NYC pier and worked its way to being “the #1 greatest show in Las Vegas history” according to Las Vegas Weekly. This is Spiegelworld’s inaugural and longest-running show.

“Absinthe” is a unique show that brings the circus to life in a way many wouldn’t expect, with talent that goes way beyond the typical dancing, acrobatics, and humor. With 16 shows a week, 365 days a year, and a cast and crew of 190 people, this is a show that people talk about for weeks, months, and years after experiencing it.

‘WTF Ross — This Is Going To Be A Smash’

Mollison recalls the optimism he had 15 years ago at the start of “Absinthe.”

“When I flew into Vegas as just another hopelessly optimistic producer with an idea 15 years ago, I was met by an intimidating roster of competitors and a skeptical casino industry,” Mollison said, according to a press release sent to The Blast. “I will never forget the first preview, our little spiegeltent filled with friends I had made through working with Cirque du Soleil for about a decade, and a bunch of casino entertainment execs out on what they expected would be another ‘terrible show night.’”

Mollison continued saying that when the lights went out after the performance, the audience instantly celebrated what they just experienced.

“My friend Jennifer Dunne who was CMO at Wynn came over and said to me ‘WTF Ross — this is going to be a smash,’” he continued. “Steve Wynn was there a week later to check it out. We had no first preview party planned, so an impromptu one was unleashed at the bar inside the venue. I remember spending what felt like my last $800 on beers for everyone. I do hope the 15th anniversary party only costs me $800.”

Where Circus Spectacle Meets Vegas Vibes

Wednesday night was my first time experiencing “Absinthe” after saying for a long time that it’s on my list. The entire experience, from the moment we arrived and entered the Green Fairy Garden, was something one might call a fever dream. With plenty of great views all around, perfect backdrops for photos, and an undeniably cool vibe, it was an experience all its own even before walking into the tent for the show.

Inside the tent is a more intimate space than what you might imagine. There isn’t a bad seat in the house! If you want to be slightly abused, in the funniest ways possible, then opt for the front rows when choosing your tickets. Otherwise, no matter where you are seated, you have a wonderful view of all angles. The show mainly takes place on the center stage, but there are moments that happen off the stage around the tent. But again, no matter where you sit, you’ll see it all.

There’s something to be said for the talent that entertains the crowd. You will most certainly scream, laugh, gasp, and be completely wowed. It’s just that kind of show that intrigues and captures your full attention the entire time. You’ll see acrobatics and dancers do things you probably have never seen before. It’s truly an experience from the moment you arrive, so be ready for anything and everything.

The bottom line, in my opinion, go see this show! Whether you’re a Vegas local or just visiting, this is an absolute must if you want the whole “Vegas experience.” You’ll laugh, you’ll be left in awe, and you’ll certainly have a story to tell after!

‘Absinthe’ Pregaming And After-Party Fun In Green Fairy Garden

Before the show, the Green Fairy Garden is a wonderland of fun, photo opportunities, good eats, and interesting-named cocktails to enjoy. It’s the perfect spot to pre-game ahead of the show. And let’s not forget, the location is perfection alone. Set outside of Caesars Palace near Hell’s Kitchen, the Green Fairy Garden gives perfect views of Bellagio, the new Hard Rock guitar, Flamingo, and more.

According to Spiegelworld’s website, “The Green Fairy Garden is open before, after, and during the show. So come hungry, and stay a while.” And you don’t even have to be going to see “Absinthe” to enjoy this experience.

If you want to grab a bite to eat before or after the show, or any other night, be sure to check out No Pants. According to the website, “More life, less pants. Is it Spiegelworld’s elevated circus-food offering? Or is it a state of mind? Whether you are seeing Absinthe or not, drop everything and get to Green Fairy Garden. Enjoy a cocktail and the best burger on the Strip with a side of crunchy golden Star Tots from No Pants.” They are open daily from 6 p.m. until “late.”

The after-party on Wednesday night was held in the Green Fairy Garden. With circus cuisine, midway games, a marching band, and fun around every bend, it was an after-party to remember.
